Roof Options
As we manufacture and install a wide range of small extensions we have developed a wide range of roofing products and suppliers to make these weather tight.
This section is designed to give an overview of the wide range of roofing products we could install at your property.
Traditionally timber cut roofs would have been used with slate or concrete tile. In the 1980’s we began installing a range of uPVC and aluminium frames to create polycarbonate or glazed conservatories.
Most recently alterations in planning laws have made it easier for homeowners to have installed solid roofs on their conservatories. The change in the law has lead to the rapid uptake of Tile Effect Roofs and Orangeries as more products are being created to suit different needs.
Browse this section to get more of an idea of the kinds of projects we undertake.

Polycarbonate roof
As with the glass roofs, we use the Global Conservatory Roof, this has a robust aluminium subframe clad with either uPVC or aluminium to suit the project’s requirements. Polycarbonate glazing panels offer the most cost-effective roofing solution, but these are noisy in heavy rain. They come in a range of colours and thickness although we tend to use a 25 mm opal polycarbonate. See an example of a polycarbonate roof on our Facebook album.
Key Features
- Global Aluminium Sub Frame
- Polycarbonate Roof of which many colours are available
- Cold in the winter
- Warm in the summer
- Noisy in the Rain

Glass roofs
As with the glass roofs we use the Global Conservatory Roof, this has a robust aluminium sub frame clad with either uPVC or aluminium to suit the project’s requirements. Pilkington self cleaning glass roofs are the most commonly used as they allow you to see out and over time, they clean themselves. Planitherm 4Seasons glass is a slightly more expensive option, but offers self-cleaning and the best thermal insulation in a double glazed unit. See an example of a completed glass conservatory roof on our Facebook album.

Orangeries
Orangeries are similar to conservatories, however, they have a flat roof with a glazed atrium.
Recently, there has been a shift from traditional conservatories towards a room that can be used all-year-round. In a way, this has promoted the use of orangeries.
Although our orangeries are similar to conservatories in the way the base is constructed and the use of windows and doors, we prefer to use solid walls in the corners to form strong pillars on which we can install a well-insulated timber roof. The roof is covered in a protective layer of fibreglass, on top of which a glass atrium is placed.
Key Features
- Mostly glazed structure
- Structural pillars
- Robust timber flat roof, at least 120 mm of insulation, plasterboard interior
- Glazed atrium with options of profile and glass
